What makes a great Network Marketing business?

This is a really important question, and while I know that different people look for different things, there are a few features worth looking for.

Here’s one of them:  significant up-front profits!

A lot of Networking Businesses pride themselves on being “accessible to everyone”. You can get involved for $200 or so and a lot of people  think that is a good deal – I did! – until they realize that making 3% or 6% of a few hundred dollars is not going to get you anywhere. In fact it typically won’t cover your on-going expenses if you buy the “marketing materials” the parents company pushes at you.

To make more money, to get ahead, you need to find people who do what you do – consistently. Such people can be very hard to find. And let’s face it, if you don’t have more to lose than a hundred dollars, the decision to quit if it doesn’t work easily is not a big one. An honest look at the attrition rates of such businesses tells the story.

But there is another type of network marketing business.  You invest a sizable sum up front to get involved in a modern business that allows you to market how and where you wish. The reward is a much bigger up-front profit – for example around $1000 every time someone joins the business through your marketing efforts. You don’t have to wait to see if that person gets their act together and actually does something. When your prospect joins the business, you make your initial profit. Sounds great? – It is! In a properly structured business there will be more to come, much more, if your prospect is serious and moves ahead to build his or her own business.

The “drawback”? You don’t get such a business for peanuts, but I learnt quickly that that was an advantage. It means that I now work with people who have a business mind, who do not kid themselves that they are business people when they are not willing to invest a couple of hundred dollars. Have you noticed in other areas of your life that people do not value what they get for free?

Well, the same applies here. Anyone who tells me that they want to be financially free in six months and refuses to spend a few thousand dollars on a business that will enable them to do that is, to put it plainly, kidding themselves and wasting my time.

Don’t get me wrong: There is a place for the schemes that you can enter for very little, but I would recommend you treat them as a hobby or simply enjoy the products. As far as building a business that will give you financial freedom is concerned, the world has moved on. There are now businesses that have modern, effective structures that avoid the old “Multi-Level” label, sophisticated marketing systems, and attractive high value products that everyone can use to their advantage. But most of all they have the magic ingredient:  significant up-front profits!

Look for that feature: you won’t regret it!
